Voters: 
  •  UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act) voters may request voter registration applications and absentee ballot applications by mail or electronically. 
  • Voter registration applications or absentee ballot applications may be mailed or sent electronically. If the voter does not indicate a preference, the application will be delivered by mail. 
  • You may access Office of the Secretary of the State of Connecticut's website where you will find an electronic version of Connecticut’s Application for Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Application. Alternatively, you may wish to access the Federal Voting Assistance Program's website where you can fill out a Federal Post Card Application which can serve as both an Application for Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Application.

How do I register to vote?

Complete a Voter Registration Card either in person or online and bring it to the Registrar of Voters or the Town Clerk's Office or mail it to Town Hall

Can I vote if I own property in Durham but I'm not a resident?

You may vote your property rights on questions involving expenditures if you are on the grand list and your property value is at least $1,000
You are not allowed to vote for candidates if you are not a resident of the Town of Durham, are not a U.S. citizen and have not attained voting age.
 

Can I register to vote on the day of the election?

Yes, by Election Day Registration (EDR) at a separate location than the polling place.  EDR is for Elections only (not primaries or referenda)

Where do I get an absentee ballot?

Absentee ballots are provided by the Town Clerk's Office. You must complete an application before receiving a ballot.
Applications may be mailed, placed in the Drop Box, delivered in person, or you may apply online HERE

I lost my absentee ballot!

Contact the Town Clerk and notify them that your ballot was lost.
The Town Clerk's Office will void the lost ballot and issue you a new one

Can I get applications or ballots for my friends and family?

You may bring your immediate family applications. If you wish to distribute applications NOT BALLOTS you can apply with the Town Clerk to distribute absentee ballot applications. 

Can I bring someone an absentee ballot?

You may only bring an absentee ballot to a voter if that voter has made you their designee (different application)
Contact the Town Clerk's Office for designee applications.

I have POA for a disabled person. Can I complete their ballot?

NO. Power of Attorney does NOT allow for the person with POA to vote for the disabled person. You may not sign any documents or complete a ballot for another person. 
If a person needs help with paperwork, there are spaces for you to sign as someone assisting. The disabled person still must sign in any way they can.

What do I do if I will be overseas during the election?

You may apply for an absentee ballot before you leave the country. The ballot will be emailed or mailed to you when it becomes available. 
If you are already overseas you may apply for an absentee ballot by emailing the completed, signed and dated application to your town clerk and mailing the original application which must be received by 8:00pm Election night by the Town Clerk

What do I do if I can't come to the polling place on Election Day?

You may vote absentee and have your ballot mailed to you.
The registrars may be able to bring your voting materials to your car on election day if you are unable to go from your car into the polling place. Contact the registrars office (860) 343-6719
