Reopening of Route 68 Bridge over Saw Mill Brook in Durham

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the planned re-opening of the Route 68 Bridge over Saw Mill Brook starting on August 5, 2025. The road opening signifies a substantial milestone on the project associated with a bridge replacement carrying Route 68 over the Sawmill Brook. The alternating one-way traffic will be reopened back to one lane in each direction.
CTDOT Project No. 0037-0103 was awarded to New England Road, Inc. at a cost of $1,861,208.00 on August 22, 2024. The project is being administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 Rocky Hill.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Route 68 one-way alternating traffic will cease and be fully opened providing one lane in each direction to the travelling public on August 5, 2025. Up to this date, motorists can still expect temporary one-way alternating traffic on Route 68 until the remaining construction and utility work activities are completed. These lane closures may occur Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
