The Tree Warden is an appointed position within the Town of Durham ans is asked to work closely with the First Selectman and the Department of Public Works.  The Tree Warden is responsible for the full cycle of activity of all shade and ornamental trees and shrubs on all public ways and places.  This includes planting, pruning, pest control and removal of dead, dying or hazardous trees.  Other responsibilities include maintaining a priority list of potentially troublesome trees and working with DPW to respond to these issues, public complaints and the coordination of emergency removals.  The maintenance  of the health and appearance of our urban forestry is of utmost importance to the Tree Warden.  Finally, the Tree Warden also works with CTDEP Division of Forestry to secure and manage grants for beautification programs for planting and preservation of trees and shrubs within the town.  As the science of tree care continues to progress, the Tree Warden stands committed to the preservation of our natural resources and the development of our community forestry programs.
