Blank APCOA Form

Pre-application Conference

In the interest of facilitating the process for property owners, prospective applicants are invited to confer with the Commission as a body prior to submission of a formal application for a Certificate of Appropriateness.   Such meetings are informal in nature, and are limited to clarifying the Commission's authority under existing statute and ordinance, its rules and procedures, an its formally adopted design guidelines, if any.  No action may be taken at the preapplication stage.
APCOAS are not required for maintenance or repair work which does not involve a change of existing design, exterior materials, outward appearance or the installation of temporary signs permitted by the Durham Zoning Regulations.

Application Process

An APCOA  must be submitted to the Commission Chairman at least fifteen days prior to the date of the next regularly scheduled meeting to allow publication of the Legal Notice for a Public Hearing.  Applications must be accompanied by drawings, showing the nature of the work to be performed as well as a list of materials to be used.  APCOA  forms are available in the Town Hall at the Town Clerk's Office.  Completed applications should be delivered to the Town Clerk's office, or mailed to Chairman, Historic District Commission, P.O. Box 428, Durham, CT 06422. If you have a question concerning whether an APCOA is required, contact the Commission Chairman. Forms and APCOA Application: Letter from the Chairman APCOA Application
