For Newcomers to the Historic District

Welcome to town! The Historic District Commission’s objective is to maintain the historic appearance of the District. We oversee changes to the exterior structure, including any changes to pavement, walls, or decks which could impact the aesthetic of the neighborhood. Repairs which exchange like-for-like (i.e. replacing 6” cedar clapboards with 6” cedar clapboards) don’t require our approval. However, a change in design or materials to the exterior does require an application for approval. The interior is not within our scope.
