4/28/2010 - Expect U.S. Census Visits

U.S. Census workers, also called “enumerators” are visiting homes, apartments and other places people live throughout our region.

Through early July, anyone who hasn’t sent back their 2010 Census form may expect a visit.  This includes residents who use P.O. Boxes who did not receive Census forms.  In order to increase the chances of finding someone at home, Census visits are often during late afternoon, evenings and on weekends.

Every Census enumerator wears an official enumerator’s badge issued by the U.S. Census Bureau.  The badge will have their name on the front and the expiration date on the back.  Residents are encouraged to ask to see the badge to confirm that the worker is official.  Enumerators may also carry a “U.S. Census Bureau” bag and their vehicle will have an official plaque displayed on the dashboard.  Legitimate Census workers will stay on doorsteps.  They will never ask to come inside your home.

Residents who are concerned about a person at their door who says they are a Census taker should ask for their name and call the Norwich Local Census Office’s Helpline at (860) 367-8371.  As always, call 911 for any emergency situation.
