FAQ – Town Clerk’s Office

Q. Is the Town Clerk’s office open late?

A. Yes, the Town Clerk’s office is open late on Tuesday nights, until 8:00 p.m.

Q. How do I obtain information on a property in Durham?
A.
The Town of Durham Website as information under “Assessment Information” about all parcels of land in the town. From this site you can print the “field card” and “assessor maps.” The field card is, basically, a summary of information on each property. The Volume and Page of the deed is noted on the field card. To look at deeds and maps of properties visit the Town Clerk’s Office.

Q. Where do I get a dog license and do I need one every year?

A. You obtain the dog license from the Town Clerk’s office. You must bring in paperwork from the vet showing, 1) rabies expiration date, and, 2) spaying or neutering form. You may also obtain a dog license by mail as long as you provide the same information as above, payment, and self-addressed stamped envelope. Connecticut State Law requires that all dogs be licenses every June (current fee for fixed dog is $8.00, current fee for unfixed dog is $19.00). For every month after June there is a $1.00 late fee added per month.  Please note:  Fees may be increasing for June 2010 dog license sales.

Q. What information do I need to apply for a Passport?

A. Every applicant needs to appear in person. Every applicant needs proof of citizenship (U.S. birth certificate or naturalization paper or old passport. In the case of minors – the long certified birth certificate showing both parents name is required). Every applicant needs proof of identity (Driver’s license or other form of picture I.D. such as an I.D. badge from place of employment. In the of minors we use the parent’s I.D. – usually a driver’s license.). Every applicant needs two identical passport pictures – we can take the pictures for you if you don’t have them when you come in. The fee for passport pictures is $10.00 per applicant. Every applicant will need a check or money order for the U.S. Department of State’s fee, and cash, check, debit or credit card for Durham’s fee. For minors: both parents need to appear for minors ages 0-15; one parent for children ages 16-17.  If you apply at the Durham Passport Office you will need to obtain the birth certificates from the town of birth or from the State Department of Health.  The Department of State does not allow our office to issue the certified birth certificate and process the Passport application.

Q. How do I obtain a Marriage License and what is the fee?

A. The law changed in October 2009 allowing you to purchase the marriage license only in the town you will be married in. The marriage license costs $30.00. Both bride and groom must come in person and have proof of identity (driver’s license etc.).  Certified copies are now $20.00.

Q. Is there a Notary in Town Hall and is there a fee?

A. There is a notary in the Town Clerk’s office. There is no fee for Durham residents and a $5.00 fee for non-residents.

Q. What is the Post Office phone number in Durham?

A. (860) 349-3350

Q. When is the Durham Fair?
