The Town of Durham is a rural community of approximately 7,134 residents, located about halfway between Hartford and New Haven. We are conveniently situated with easy access to Interstate highway routes 91, 84, 95 and State highway routes 9 and 691. Durham is primarily residential, with a few remaining farms and a small business park.
Our three churches are conveniently located on Main Street, along with our municipal buildings and our wonderful library.
Our school system and transfer station are regionalized with our neighboring community of Middlefield.
Town government is conducted by an elected three-member Board of Selectmen, with the position of First Selectman being full time. The legislative body of our municipality is the Town Meeting. Regular meetings of the Board of Selectmen are the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the library.
We encourage involvement in community activities, boards, and commissions. Meeting dates are posted on the public bulletin board in the Town Hall and you are most welcome to attend, observe, and hopefully, find an area of interest. Please click on the community calendar for more information.
Durham provides a serene pastoral setting with good schools and extensive open space. It is an excellent place to bring your business and your family and watch them both grow.
Many thanks to Durham Resident, Terrence Lynch for sharing the beautiful picture of the Town Hall on the Home Page.
